Artificial grass market

In recent years, artificial turf has been used in an increasing number of applications. Besides in the segment of sports and leisure, which is experiencing rapid growth, artificial turf is increasingly used in hotels, homes and gardens, especially in sparsely rainy and where lawn watering is subject restricted.

The artificial grass market today and its future prospects are reflected in the figures in Table 1. Market growth is expected to be shown based on the global trend of spaces equipped with artificial turf as well as increased use in homes and landscaping.

Currently, the European market for sports applications stands at about 10,000 fields per year, which corresponds to a production of 50,000 tons annually. Overall, in Europe there are about 100,000 modify fields that are expected over the next 10 years based on cost reductions. The fact that since February 2004 the artificial turf has also been approved by Fifa further enhances this development.

Due to the scarcity of water in the South, the landscaping will be a major market sports applications. Only in San Diego, there are about half a million homes with 200 square feet of artificial turf in front of their doors. Meanwhile, in California, have banned watering lawns natural. If the city of San Diego will replace all natural grass turf, the demand for this city only represent about 100 million square feet of artificial turf, for which it would take about 100 million kilos of yarn.
